Q: I'd like to get a copy of the GJLA Tenant Screening Application. How do I get it?
A: Only members of the GJLA can download copies of the application. The most recent version can be downloaded from the blog or members can pick up a copy at our meetings.
 
Q: I've had bad experiences with tenants. Is there any way to report their names to other landlords? Also can I submit the names of tenants who have honored their obligations?
A: Yes. The Johnstown Credit Bureau maintains a tenant database. You do not need to be a member of the GJLA to submit a name. There is no cost to submit a name and you can check names of prospective tenants as well. Call them at (814) 535-2513. Tell them the GJLA sent you.
 
Q: How do I read the blog?
A: The blog is for members only. Send an email to johnstownlandlords@yahoo.com and ask to join the blog. You will receive an email with a link in it. Click on the link and you will be asked for your Google account username and password. If you don't have an account it is free and easy to get one. Just follow the instructions and you will be ready to read the posts and add your own comments. Members-click here to log in to the blog.
Q: Can I come to a G.J.L.A. meeting if I am not a member?
A: Yes! Come as our guest and learn all you can about our group. If you would like to join, fine. If not, no problem. If you would like to discuss something, feel free to bring it up. Of course, we ask that if you wish to come to more meetings that you join since our membership fee allows us to continue providing legal representaion and membership to the Johnstown Credit Bureau.
Q: I only have one rental unit. Can this group really help me?
A: Yes. Our membership is varied with some having dozens of units and others, one. If you have one rental property and one tenant you face the same challenges as a landlord with 50 units. You have to find a tenant, collect rent, maintain the unit, and deal with the same laws.
Q: I don't own rentals in the city of Johnstown, why would I join?
A: We are the GREATER Johnstown Landlords Association and we deal with issues of importance to landlords outside of the city as well. We have been active in Westmont recently and will support our members from other areas.
Q: I've been successful for a long time with my rental properties, why do I need to join?

 

A: If you can help other landlords become successful as well, property values will likely increase and the profession of landlording will get a much needed public relations boost. We would be grateful for any tips and techniques you could share with us.

 

Q: I'm not ready to join yet, but can I help in other ways?

 

A: Yes! We always need help with work like mailings and phone calls. Or if you can provide use of a copier or office supplies. A financial donation is welcome as well since we rely on legal respresentation to protect our rights and that is very expensive. None of our board members are paid, we all are volunteers.
